Robotics
VEX Robotics at Shoreland Lutheran High School offers students an exciting, hands-on opportunity to explore the world of STEM through a global competition platform. In this program, teams of students design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in an arena-based game, working both with and against other teams to accomplish specific goals and earn points. Using the VEX EDR system, Shoreland’s robotics team engages in a dynamic environment that blends creativity, critical thinking, and technical skill.
Robotics at Shoreland is more than just building machines—it’s a team-driven experience that fosters collaboration, leadership, and real-world problem-solving. Students take on defined roles such as designers, builders, drivers, programmers, and even presenters or public speakers, based on their interests and strengths. Each team member plays an essential part in preparing for and competing in tournaments, and everyone is encouraged to contribute in meaningful ways.
Guided by dedicated coaches and mentors, students lead the engineering and design process from start to finish. While adults provide support and instruction, the robots are entirely student-built—ensuring an authentic learning experience. Year after year, this program equips students with valuable skills and a deeper understanding of the many career paths available in science, technology, engineering, and math.
